Short Answer: (2 points each)

1. Name two of the towns where the Witch Trials were held in Massachusetts.

2. What was the charm mentioned in the lesson that a magical person could perform to avoid the unpleasant effects of burning in a fire?

3. Mentioned in the lesson, how many times did Wendelin the Weird allow herself to be burned?

4. Mentioned in the lesson, how many people were convicted of the capital felony of witchcraft?

5. What does the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery state?

Essay: (10 points – No word minimum or maximum, but put some thought into this)

Again, mentioned many times in the lessons, there are a number of different ways the Ministry of Magic has attempted to control rogue witches and wizards. Ruling out the use of dementors, how would you attempt to control criminals who have the ability to perform magic? They have a great deal more power and ability than muggles if they feel the need to escape, so security over them has to be equally as intense. How would you go about controlling them? Where would you these criminals? Who or what would guard them? Come up with your own method.

Extra Credit: (30 points – No word minimum or maximum, once again, put some effort into it. Maybe give me a picture!)

Playing off the essay portion of the assignment, since I like creativity and being amused, for this extra credit we're going to stick to creating things.

Obviously, there are major unsolved moral, ethical, and safety issues with using dementors as a source of magical protection. They cannot be trusted and their allegiance to one cause is rather wishy-washy. Getting down to business, the Wizarding world needs a new source of protection and you are going to be the pioneers who creates it.

This new protection can be anything: An animal, a magical creature, a cyborg, a cyclops, some giant magnet wall around the nation. Anything.

All I require is that you write an essay describing the new protection and send in some sort of picture (using whatever program you prefer) of what it will look like. You don't have to be an artist. I will accept anything. Even stick figures in Paint. Just try!
